Speckled Trout in Galveston Bay

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Folks…………………….

Recent days in Trinity and Lower Galveston bays near Dickinson and the wesr side of Trinity have been extremly good for numbers of spec’s to 20 inches.

However, wading the east shoreline of Trinity near Hodges, have produced several good ones over 25 inches.

If your interest is redfish, these can be found in and around in Dickinson bay area, as well as the deep hole in Moses.

Keep in mine, these pesky cold fronts play a hugh role, for better or no water.

Tides can change from normal to four feet low in a matter of hours. Plan your trips about two days after a cold front and just prior to one. Where you fish will depend on water levels in that area.

Do not be caught in an area where the tides drop and you are unable to load your boat after your fishing trip is over. Been there, not fun, had to leave it till the water rose the next day………………….

Bait presentation is slow and slower. On or near the bottom, depending on the depth. Present temp these past few days has been in the mid 50’s to near 60 degrees.

Colors are simple. Dark in off-colored and light in clear waters. Plum, black and pumpkin seed and for light conditions use limetruse, glow or salt and pepper. Jig heads to be 1/4 or 1/8 drifting and 1/16 for wading.
It;s tough to throw 1/16, but able to keep it in the zone longer.

Using Sufix braid in the 30 lb test. Great feel this time of year with awesome line.

Little bait is necessary. Stay where find bait.

Be sure and layer this time of year. Gets real cold when the suns sets. Lots of sunscreen and lip savers…………………..

As I write this report, another front due in hours. Will change my patterns, It great to figure these fish out…………….sometimes
