Birds in Galveston Bay

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

This past week, the Galveston Bay complex had several inches of rain due to a cold front. Upwards of 5-6 inches reached the run offs of all the bayous and rivers around Trinity, East and West Bay. This caused a major migration of all the shrimp in the back bay and marches to fall towards the middle of each bay complex.

Thus, we now now have large flocks of seagulls feeding over large schools of speckled trout and REDFISH………………………………….

Water temp is hovering around 65 degrees and the visibility is awesome to about 1-2 feet.

Locations in Trinity are near Dows and Beasley reef, along with the east shoreline near Double bayou. In East bay, birds are working near Robinson bayou and Marsch Point. Campbells bayou and near Greens and Alligator point in West bay, are holding good numbers of diving birds……………

Make use of gold spoons in the 1/4 to 1/2 oz. Long casts prove important for good numbers of big girls near 4-5 lbs. Soft plastic grubs like Devils Eyes from Brown Lures or Salt Water Assassins work as well with 3/8 or 1/2 oz lead…………….

Redfish are in good numbers as well in the slot. Finding Gulf trout to 2-3 lbs as well. Real bonus as these fish normally just outside the jettys near offshore rigs……………..

This bird activity will continue to work till winter patterns arrive later this year…………………….

Deer season opens November 7th in both north and south zones. This will allow those anglers near perfect conditions, to make a memory of a lifetime……….

Stop by Fishing Tackle Unlimited in Houston, Texas and look at their rod selections of the famous GREEN ROD………….both in 6′2″,6″6″ and 7′. Great action in fast and medium tips.

Take time to enjoys our Lords great outdoors…………….God bless your families

Recent days along the spoil banks near Marker 52 to 72, have rewarded those anglers with near limits of speckled trout.

Either using soft plastic Bass Assassins or live croaker, best time is with any water movement in or out. Visibility is awesome, especially on the incoming tide..Water temp is 80 degrees………

Use a Caroline rigging with #3 circle hook or limetruse or space guppy in soft plastic.

This galveston bay guide has seen several speckled trout in the 25-27 inch range. Got to have 3/8 or 1/2 lead on or near the bottom.

Winds have been tough. Be careful when anchored. Use 10 feet of anchor rope for every foot under the boat.

Take plenty of liquids, water and gater-aid to hydrate your body……………

Make use of FTU Green rod in medium action, 6′6″ for those big trout with live croaker. Usde the fast action for those soft plastics. Plenty of backbone in both actions………………..

More on this action later this week……………
god bless
