West Winds Equals Specs & Redfish

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Folks………………..

These past two weeks of excessive winds from the south and west has been holding good numbers of both near the shore lines of East Bay and Campbell’s area .

Lots of birds in Campbell’s. Some sand trout and keepers to 18 inches.
In East, need to wade……………….period…………….

Tides been slack and little movement. But none the less, great numbers to 25 inches(spec”s) wading near the grass line and drains(bayou’s)….
You need to be there early and stay late till dark if necessary. Pick your time, early or late afternoon and stay put……………..

Redfish holding using spoons, and dark colored soft plastics, like plum or redshad.

Using Gulp and Salt Water Assassins, key is rafts of mullet and small shad.
Top water bait like the LittleSpook or Junior Skittlewalker.

Wet wading is acceptable, although it’s a little cool due to the excessive winds. Wade-Lites from Simms are excellent.

Color for top include clear, white, chartruse, and black.

Big secret, Trinity Bay holding solid fish in the middle near the wells. Difficult to reach daily, but go when the winds die off.

Enjoy the Memorial Days ahead. Tell a service man or woman, thanks for standing tall and serving both here and overseas…………

God bless

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAUL.

Now for a fishing report. Fished late yesterday (4pm to 8pm) with two young men. One was my son. We fished a mid bay reef in East Bay. Ended up with sixteen trout from 16in to 20in. My son Jeremy and his friend Brandon fished the same reef the day before (late afternoon) and caught 17 trout.
