Winter Pattern

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

As this writer and guide updates my fishing report, we will soon have our first winter cold front. Winds are now in excess of 25mph from the NNW, which means approx 3-4 feet of water leaving the Galveston bay complex. Water temp continues to free fall, maybe in the high 40’s by weekend.

Time to switch to your winter clothing and patterns. These fish will either bury up in mud or move to deeper waters…………either way, time to slow down your presentation.

West Bay will hold good fish near the Pass and near Greens Cut. East Bay will recover near Robinson Bayou and the Wildlife on the north ridge……..
Burnrett and Scott’s bay, another great area with deep water access. Offitts Bayou and Moses Lake, offer deep water as well.

Using 1/4 to 3/8 oz heads from Bass Assassin or Fishing Tackle Unlimited own brand will work great, with a slow and steady retreive.

Colors need to be bright, like limetruse, cajun pepper, pearl or glow…………….Use paddle tails or Gulp……………..

Use Sufix braid in 30 lb. Or maybe 20 lb. Replace your hooks with Gamakatsu, extra razor sharp tips.

All of our rods at Fishing Tackle Unlimited work. Use a fast tip in either 6′2″, 6′6″ or 6′9″. The Green rod or its’ brother, the silver one……………

Remember, it’s winter time now. No more shorts or before dawn trips across Galveston waters………….

Merry Christmas to your familes

Wade or Drift East Galveston Bay

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Folks…………………
This past week cold front has re-inforced good numbers of speckled trout in East Bay. Either drifting or wading has been excellent. This fishing guide recent trips with the Woodards and McKenzie’s have been about as good as it gets………..
North wind has pinned us to the north ridge of East Bay. Winds have been under 20mph and lighter in the early evenings.
Either drifting this bay or wade up tight to the grass, have produced speckled trout to 25 inches, some as large as 7 lbs, using the Boga scale.
Best bait selection has been soft plastic. either use the Corky or its friend the Corky Devil. Color is pink, red or black. This Galveston bay fishing guide has also used to a good deal of success, soft plastic tails from Brown Lures, Bass Assassin or Norton sand ells. Colors are black, pumpkin seed and plum. Use 1/4 oz drifting and 1/8 wading.

Top water selections are Baby Spooks and She Pups from Mirrolure.

Slow presentation on or near the bottom. Corky’s or the Devil need to be worked near the surface. Let em’ float up and pull em’ down.

Tides are 1-2 feet, both in or out. Visibility is poor. About 3-4 inches.

Cleanup in East Bay is awesome. Great strides have been made. Still need to either track back or leave after daylight.

Areas like Robinson Bayou, Deep Reef, Seivers, and Stephenson are paying off with near limits of trout.

Water temp recently has been 78 to 80 degrees. Most able to wade wet. But some like this fishing guide, still use the Simms Wade-lites.

Shimano reel Core or the new Curido along with FTU (FishingTackle Unlimited) 6′6″ Green Rod are a solid two some………………..
Next week winds will turn back to the SSE and the south shoreline should light up…………….

God bless and enjoy your time with family or friends.
